VACCINATION: HISTORY - PRESENT - FUTURE

The George & Marie Vergottis Foundation, in collaboration with the Hellenic Society of General/Family Medicine (ELEGEIA), is organising the scientific event “Vaccination: History – Present – Future“, as part of the 4th Adult Vaccination School.
The event will take place on Saturday, 26 September 2026, at 20:00, at the Vergottis Cultural Centre in Kourkoumelata, Kefalonia.
The aim of the event is to provide responsible information to the public and to health professionals on the enduring value of vaccination, the evolution of science and the fundamental role of Primary Health Care in prevention and in the protection of public health. Particular reference will be made to the contribution of the Family Doctor to adult vaccination.
The event carries special symbolism in Kefalonia, as it is also connected with the island’s important medical heritage. A special place in this heritage belongs to Iakovos (Jacob) Pylarinos, with his Kefalonian roots and his important contribution to the history of preventive medicine. The reference to this historical legacy highlights Kefalonia’s enduring connection with medical science and prevention.
